Clement Valla
Clement Valla [RISD MFA ’09, Digital + Media]
Clement Valla was born in Paris, France. He received a BA in architecture from Columbia University in New York, and is currently an MFA candidate at the Rhode Island School of Design. After working as an architect and designer in the USA, France, and China, Clement began using computers and digital technologies to explore formal, mathematical, linguistic and social systems. Clement works within these systems, applying a ‘programmed brain’ that pushes problem-solving logic to irrational ends. He is interested in processes that produce unfamiliar artifacts and skew reality. Like anamorphic projection, his programs produce distorted artifacts that reveal their own underlying logic, but also point to the system as it functions when we fail to notice it- when it works conventionally.
Clement currently lives and works in Providence, RI.
